Full‑Day East Tour — From Dramatic Shifts to Above the Clouds

We begin the day in Santa Cruz, a peaceful coastal town. Enjoy a short walk, visit the 1507 church, or stop at a local bakery for a fresh pastry.

Next, we drive through Machico. Depending on the day, we may stop at the historic church, enjoy a viewpoint, or admire the golden sand beach.

We continue to the eastern tip of Madeira to see Ponta de São Lourenço from the Ponta do Rosto viewpoint — one of the island’s most dramatic landscapes and a filming location for the Star Wars series The Acolyte.

Crossing the island from south to north, we stop in Santana for a 1‑hour break. Have lunch or a snack and admire the famous traditional triangular houses, or visit nearby viewpoints.

Discover Madeira’s golden era as we continue to Porto da Cruz to explore the only steam‑powered sugar cane mill in Europe. You can also enjoy a rum tasting and learn about the island’s sugar heritage.

Afterwards, we drive up to Santo da Serra, crossing Madeira’s nature reserve. This peaceful countryside area offers fresh mountain air, relaxing scenery, and pleasant stops along the way. It’s a smoother and less crowded alternative to the previous route, and you can also visit one of the most beloved gardens where Madeiran families gather on weekends.

Climbing to the highest elevations, the scenery and weather shift as we reach Pico do Arieiro (1800 m) — one of Madeira’s most breathtaking places, often above the clouds.

To finish the day, we descend the mountain toward your accommodation, watching the landscape and weather change as we return safely to where we started or wherever you prefer.
